As people begin to evacuate Florida, airline prices have begin to feel the effect of Hurricane Irma’s approach.
The storm has left a devastating path of destruction through the northern Caribbean as it makes its way toward the south eastern coast of the U.S. Miami has already issued a mandatory evacuation for some 150,000 coastal residents of Dade country with the storm expected to make landfall in the Florida Keys early Sunday morning.
With so many people attempting to leave the state at once, airlines have felt the effect of limited inventory as they attempt to accommodate the influx of passengers. Prices of Friday Delta Airlines DAL tickets out of Miami were around twice as expensive and are expected to take double the normal amount of time. American Airlines AAL had the most expensive ticket by far, though the company has since said it would cap available flights at $99. JetBlue JBLU has also capped flights at $99.
