With major blockbusters like Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Jurassic World’ this year, retailers like Target (TGT) and toymakers like Hasbro (HAS) stand to reap the rewards from sales of licensed products, according to TheStreet’s Brian Sozzi. Sales of licensed toys rose 7% in 2014 from the year before, and could experience an even bigger gain this year on the heels of films like Avengers: Age of Ultron. The movie just became the fifth title in history to surpass $900 million in gross box office receipts worldwide. Its popularity has likely helped sales at Hasbro in the second quarter, contributing to the 31% surge in its stock price this year. Highly-anticipated thriller ‘Jurassic World’ hits theaters on June 12 — and Hasbro has the license to sell toys on that movie as well. Arguably the biggest opening of the year will be ‘Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens’ on December 18. Although toys for the film won’t go on sale until September 4, there’s already speculation about what they might look like — and how much they’ll cost.
