Netflix (NFLX) is set to launch in Japan this fall. The on demand video service will partner with Osaka based talent agency Yoshimioto Kogyo to produce local content for Japanese audiences. Netflix will underwrite a percentage of the production costs and will also be introducing some of the Netflix original series to the market. A well known Japanese TV personality has already been signed up for the first series and local report suggest that Netflix is looking to forge further partnerships with other Japanese studios and animation houses. The video streaming giant will not be alone in the Japanese market, growing competitor Japan Content Group is set to launch a video on demand service before the end of 2015. The group has been recently formed by 29 of Japan’s major TV networks and film studios which also plan to introduce a mix of movies, TV series and original content. Netflix is now a feature in over 50 countries.
