Garvis Toler, head of global capital markets at the New York Stock Exchange, reviews the landscape of initial public offerings during the first half of 2015 and previews what’s in store for the second half of the year. Toler says the NYSE had over 260 transactions raising more than $90 billion in the first half, with more than 40 initial public offerings that raised more than $12 billion in proceeds. Toler explains that the JOBS Act, introduced a few years ago, has had a positive effect in terms of encouraging companies to come to the market. As almost all of the companies that were eligible to use the JOBS Act to file for an initial public offering did so, according to Toler, who expects that trend to continue, with IPO activity picking up especially after the Labor Day holiday. Plus, Toler reveals what sort of international interest the New York Stock Exchange is seeing for initial public offerings and what the exchange is doing to attract companies from overseas.
