IBM (IBM) says it’s made computer chips more powerful than any in existence. The tech company said its working on versions of ultradense computer chips, with roughly 4 times the capacity of today’s most powerful chips. The company says it has samples of chips with 7 nanometer transistors. The new material makes it possible faster transistor switching and lower power requirements. IBM, in recent years, has shed much of its computer and semiconductor manufacturing capacity but the announcement today indicates it may be interested in continuing to manufacturing technology. The project is a joint effort where IBM invested $3 billion dollars in private-public partnerships with New York State, GlobalFoundries, Samsung and equipment vendors.
