Shares of home health and hospice care provider Amedisys are up over 50% so far in 2015. The surge in the stock is a matter of better management in the face of a changing industry, said Paul Kusserow, CEO of Amedisys. ‘The great thing about home health is that it’s the cheapest place to provide care and it’s where people want to be,’ said Kusserow. ‘And when you combine all that with the cuts that are coming and new technologies coming on, we think there is going to be an increasing place for the home in curing disease as well taking care of people.’ Amedisys provides home health and hospice services with 395 care centers in 34 states, 13,000 employees, 55,000 patients and 2014 revenues of $1.2 billion. The company announced this week its plans to open an executive office in Nashville. More than 2,200 hospitals and 61,900 physicians nationwide partner with Amedisys in the home health and hospice arena. Kusserow said the changes from Obamacare are making the hospice business in particular an increasingly profitable area.
