European markets posted gains across the board in early morning trading as they rebounded from a five-session losing streak buoyed by big-ticket deal news out of the U.K. and some strong results. RSA Insurance Group led the London market higher, climbing 14% after Zurich Insurance Group confirmed rumors it is pondering a bid that could value its rival at about £5.5 billion ($8.55 billion). Industrial holding group Melrose Industries plc also rose sharply, up 13%, after announcing the sale of its Elster Group SE utilities metering business to Honeywell International Inc. for £3.3 billion. The backdrop for Europe’s gains was provided by China, where a rollercoaster trading session ended the day with markets down just 1.7%, a relatively positive result compared to Monday’s fall of more than 8%.
