U.S. stocks opened higher even though ADP said private sector job creation in July fell short of expectations. ADP said 185,000 jobs were created in July, expectations were for 215,000. Time Warner (TWX) says earnings topped expectations, driven by HBO Now and videogames. NBC says it expects ad revenue from the Rio Olympic games to top $1 billion. Sunrun (RUN) begins trading on the NASDAQ today and raised its target of $261 million dollars. Netflix (NFLX) is offering new parents one full year of paid maternity leave. The Silicon Valley company says experience has shown them that when workers are distracted it impacts their performance. The move could pressure other tech firms to do the same as they vie for the best talent. Mortgage applications for the week ending July 31st rose 4.7 percent as interest rates dropped. Refinancings led the way. TheStreet’s Jane King reports from the Nasdaq Marketsite.
