European stock markets clawed back ground after Monday’s devastating global selloff despite another day of heavy losses for Chinese stocks. Mining stocks led by BHP Billiton recovered to trade sharply higher even after the world’s leading mining group announced a sharp falls in full-year revenue and earnings. Investors marked RSA Insurance Group higher after it agreed to an offer in principle from the larger Zurich Insurance that would value its stock at $8.8 billion. And in Zurich crop sciences company Syngenta rose on reports that Monsanto has increased its offer for the company to more than $46 billion and upped an antitrust-related breakup fee to $3 billion.
