Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn worries issues plaguing Volkswagen around false emissions standards in the United States could harm the industry’s reputation. Ghosn said, ‘Obviously, we are concerned about the reputation of the industry and as such we are contributing as much as possible to be as transparent as possible and as collaborative as possible with all the entities that are putting regulation for the car market in the United States.’ Ghosn is the CEO of the European Automobile Association and calls the issue a ‘difficult situation’ for VW. As for whether Volkswagen can survive what could amount to a maximum of $18 billion in fines in the U.S. alone, Ghosn said ‘it’s too soon to tell’ but ‘how the automaker deals with the emissions issue will be key to its future.’ TheStreet’s Ruben Ramirez has details from New York.
