Electronic Dance Music DJ Armin van Buuren is ending 2015 in a big way — musically and financially with the release of his new album, Embrace. The album, his most creative to date, is a major stepping-stone for the Dutch native, bringing his worldwide popularity to even bigger heights. ‘Everything is new about Embrace,’ he told TheStreet. ‘It’s a whole new chapter in my life.’ On his creative process, he opened up saying, ‘There is so much to learn in making music.’ 2015 saw van Buuren also take a much more behind-the-scenes business role in his career going into 2016. ‘Every performer is a little bit of a businessman..but they’re also an artist,’ he said. ‘Put your art before the money’ he says. From photo shoots to professional musicians to his five-man live show design crew, the finances of being a megastar are often kept quiet around his studio. ‘I never want know beforehand what I am going to make on a gig,’ van Buuren said. His whirlwind performing schedule takes him all over the globe, and while he’s one of the most successful DJs in the world, he feels the financial gain of performing and creating new art inside the genre of electronic music should come after the music itself. ‘The one thing you cannot mix with any track, is money,’ he said. With a multiple country tour to follow the release of Embrace, there is no indication electronic dance music is going away in 2016.
