Total revenue at the box office hit $11 billion in 2015, according to Rentrak, a record level. With studios like Disney (DIS), Universal, operated by Comcast (CMCSA), Warner Brothers (TWX) and 20th Century Fox (FOX) cashing in on big hits. ‘Jurassic World’ took the box office number one spot for the year, raking in $652.2 million. The fourth installment of the dinosaur franchise had the highest grossing global opening ever thanks to its extensive IMAX 3D release. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ came in second with $571.4 million (the movie opened on December 18). ‘Age of Ultron’ took the third spot, bringing in $459 million at the box office, with Robert Downey Jr. earning an estimated $40 million for his 5th stint as ‘Iron Man’.
