Shake Shack’s (SHAK) fried chicken sandwich will likely be a top seller nationally, just like it is at the chain’s Brooklyn, New York locations, according to Randy Garutti, Shake Shack’s CEO. Thursday marked the chain’s national launch of its Chick’n Shack sandwich. Chicken costs less than beef, but Garutti said it’s too early to say what the chicken sandwich will do for profit margins. Garutti said while commodity costs have come down, the biggest pressure Shake Shack faces is employee costs. Garutti said he expects to raise wages every year, and he believes the restaurant industry will see rapid wage growth over the next five years. On another note, Garutti said there are no plans to offer breakfast at more than a handful of locations, but he personally would eat the new Chick’n Shack for a morning meal.
