Wall Street put the brakes on a recent rally to stall near the flatline on Monday. Investors appeared to sit on the sidelines ahead of the Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting tomorrow. Crude also put the pressure on stocks, closing at its lowest level in nearly a week. Viacom (VIA.B) shareholders have re-elected the company’s board of directors, rejecting a proposal to expand voting rights to all shareholders. Four-fifths of voting shares are held by chairman and founder Sumner Redstone’s holding company. The European Parliament’s tax committee has scheduled a Wednesday hearing to question Apple (AAPL), Alphabet’s (GOOGL) Google, IKEA, and McDonald’s (MCD) over their tax practices. A number of multinationals have been under European Union investigation as to how they structure their corporations to avoid taxes.
