Fourth of July may be best known as a day to fire up the grill or head to the beach, but according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it is also the deadliest day on the road. The biggest factor, drunk driving. Roughly 47 percent of accidents can be attributed to at least one driver with a blood-alcohol level of at least .08 (the limit where drivers are considered legally drunk). If you’ll be on the road this fourth, the safest city to drive in is Brownsville, Texas. The worst: Boston, Massachusetts. Adrian Lund, President, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says, ‘There are many simple things we can do right now to make our highways safer. If everyone buckled up, obeyed speed limits and didn’t drink and drive, we’d have many fewer crashes, injuries and deaths on our highways.’
