Tesla and Solar City could announce their merger as soon as today. Sources tell Fortune that an announcement would set the stage for the two companies’ shareholders to back the deal. Combining the clean energy car maker with the solar panel installer is a major part of billionaire Elon Musk’s plan. Musk is the CEO of Tesla, Chairman of SolarCity and the biggest shareholder in both companies. Uber has made a big deal in China. It will combine with its rival, Didi Chuxing, in that country. The deal values the company at about $35 billion, according to two poeple with knowledge of the deal. Uber and Didi had been bitter rivals for marketshare in the country. Global stocks are starting the month of August on a mostly positive note. U.S. stocks closed out July with gains. The S&P 500 rose 4% in July, the NASDAQ soared 6%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 3% and set 7 record highs in the month.
