Crude Oil News: 14:54 ET – “Oil prices end 2.4% higher at a four-session high of $56.21 /bbl as US stock prices on Wall Street continue to recover from steep declines last week, which is boosting risk appetite across asset classes. “Crude prices this week are dependent on external factors, led specifically by stock markets and bond markets,” said Peter Cardillo , chief market economist at Spartan Capital in NY. “To the extent that it appears we’re not immediately headed for a recession, oil prices suddenly look cheap.” Analysts said reports of an attack on a Saudi oil field by Yemen’s Houthi rebels was also lifting crude prices due to the supply risks it presented.” ([email protected]) – Wall Street Journal
Natural Gas News: 14:56 ET – “Natural gas prices end the session 0.5% higher at $2.2100 /mmBtu as investors focus on near-term temperatures that remain hot in many regions, which should keep demand high for at least another week. Although markets had been focusing on forecasts for a cool-down into late-August and early September, NatGasWeather.com on Monday lifted its immediate seven-day national gas demand outlook to high from moderate, noting “strong high pressure will dominate the western and southern U.S. with highs of 90s to 100s, hottest from California to Texas , for strong demand.” Despite modest price gains recently, the benchmark remains about 25% lower for the year due to stubbornly-high production that continues to swamp demand.” ([email protected])- Wall Street Journal
