NVIDIA’s board announced on November 8, 2026 that it was initiating an independent investigation after recent reporting that founder and CEO Jensen Huang had been targeted by a foreign intelligence effort. The statement did not establish that a foreign intelligence effort had succeeded.
A committee of independent directors will oversee the investigation, assisted by outside independent counsel. The announcement marks the opening of that review, not a completed investigation or a finding against Huang.
Security Position and Leadership Response
On the security implications, the board said it had no reason to believe that either national security or NVIDIA secrets had been compromised, while committing to examine all available information. The review therefore addresses a reported intelligence threat without announcing a confirmed breach.
Directors described U.S. national and economic security as paramount to the interests of NVIDIA and its shareholders. Huang fully supports the review and has committed to cooperating with it. The board expressed confidence in Huang and his leadership team and said it would provide further updates as appropriate; no remedial measures were announced.
Congress Requested a Separate Briefing
The board’s announcement followed a congressional request. A House Foreign Affairs Committee release dated November 5, 2026 identified House Foreign Affairs Chairman Brian Mast, Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar, and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford as the chairmen seeking a joint, closed-door briefing from Huang.
Their letter, dated November 4, 2026, requested a briefing on NVIDIA’s security protocols against foreign adversary espionage and Huang’s interactions with Megaspeed executive Alice Huang. The letter described her as a publicly reported People’s Republic of China (PRC) intelligence asset. That description is the lawmakers’ characterization based on public reporting, not a newly announced committee finding.
“Recent reports raise significant national security concerns regarding the PRC’s access to sensitive U.S. technology and information,” the chairmen wrote. They described PRC infiltration and access to cutting-edge U.S. technology as central to the investigative work of their three committees and said Congress needed to determine the extent to which national security had been placed at risk.
The letter requested Huang’s appearance on November 18, 2026. It asked him to accept that date or provide an alternative during a session day of the 119th Congress by November 11, 2026.
The congressional request and board investigation are separate processes. Lawmakers are seeking Huang’s account of specified interactions and security protocols, while independent directors examine all available information about the reported targeting. Together, the two tracks put NVIDIA’s security protocols and the reported targeting under scrutiny in separate venues, with the November 11 response deadline as the nearest dated next step while the board promises further updates as appropriate.
