Crusoe Hands Google a Pre-Developed Wyoming AI Data Center Site – Unite.AI

Crusoe announced on November 6, 2026 that Google had acquired its data-center site in southeast Wyoming, completing Crusoe’s pre-development engagement on the project. The work covered site selection, governmental approvals and a hybrid power strategy developed with Tallgrass Energy.

Chief executive and co-founder Chase Lochmiller characterized the pre-construction work as origination, entitlement and de-risking, positioning it for construction and eventual operation. The disclosure therefore marks a development handoff after those preparations, with no new construction start or operating capacity announced.

Joint Development and Power Design

Crusoe and Tallgrass initiated the campus through joint development of power and data-center infrastructure. Their process coordinated energy-systems design, data-center engineering, site development and hyperscaler engagement concurrently, tying the electricity plan to the campus’s technical and commercial preparation.

The partners introduced the project on July 24, 2025 as a 1.8-gigawatt AI data-center campus designed for expansion to as much as 10 gigawatts. Those figures describe the announced design and expansion potential. The initial plan combined multiple energy sources fueled by natural gas with future renewable-energy developments in the region. It also drew on Tallgrass’s existing Wyoming natural-gas and water assets and the proximity of its CO2 sequestration hub for long-term carbon capture.

The hybrid strategy combines fuel cells, grid power and natural-gas turbines, with a long-term carbon-capture roadmap through Tallgrass’s regional CO2 sequestration hub. The power design was therefore part of the preparatory package completed before the ownership transfer.

Google’s Data Center Plan

Crusoe’s disclosure came one day after Google announced its first Wyoming data center, describing a long-term $17 billion investment in Laramie County with Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital. The project is contracted with American Electric Power for a 702-megawatt fuel-cell development with carbon capture and storage, using Bloom Energy fuel cells. The carbon-capture component is designed for permanent geologic storage at Tallgrass’s nearby Eastern Wyoming Sequestration Hub. Google is also sourcing electricity from gas generators operated by Tallgrass Energy and Black Hills Energy, and evaluating whether Tallgrass’s combined-cycle turbines can be fitted with carbon-capture technology. Google said the data center will be air-cooled to minimize strain on local water resources.

Crusoe’s Remaining Pipeline

For Crusoe, the transaction concludes one site-specific role within a larger infrastructure portfolio. Lochmiller said the company has more than 6 gigawatts contracted and over 40 gigawatts in its pipeline, figures that span its wider business rather than the Wyoming campus alone.

The ownership transfer separates the preparatory role Crusoe has completed from the data-center investment Google has outlined. The site now has an owner whose announced plan includes large-scale fuel cells, carbon capture and air cooling, building on the approval and hybrid-power groundwork. What remains is the conversion of that prepared site and power plan into construction and eventual operation.
