SK hynix announced the launch of SK hynix Ventures on September 18, 2026, a corporate venture capital brand that the South Korean memory maker said is designed to deepen strategic partnerships across the global AI ecosystem and secure future innovative technologies.

To mark the occasion, the company held the inaugural SK hynix Ventures Day in Silicon Valley on September 17, 2026, local time. CEO Kwak Noh-Jung and key executive leadership attended alongside representatives from global venture capital firms and executives from leading startups. SK hynix executives shared investment strategies with the venture capitalists and startup representatives present and discussed future technological cooperation in response to changes across the AI industry. The company said it plans to expand investments across the entire AI ecosystem through the new brand.

A CVC Organization Operating Since 2015

SK hynix has operated a corporate venture capital organization since 2015, making direct investments as well as indirect investments through fund commitments in early-stage startups in the semiconductor and emerging technology sectors. Its investments have reached enterprises in the U.S., China, Israel, and Japan. The company said the organization has achieved returns exceeding twice its cumulative investment to date. It also said it has built a record of identifying new supply chains and customers through technological collaborations with portfolio companies, including joint equipment development and Proof of Concept projects.

Past CVC activities centered on what the company calls “Tech Sensing,” the exploration of future technology trends, and “Path Finding,” the discovery of new business opportunities. Citing recent advancements in AI technology and expansion of the industry, SK hynix said the organization’s role will now evolve from simply discovering promising companies to leading collaborative innovation across the entire ecosystem.

Investment Scope Expands Across the AI Ecosystem

Through SK hynix Ventures, the company plans to broaden its investment scope from traditional semiconductors and emerging tech to the broader AI ecosystem. It said it aims to identify technologies and companies with high growth potential in core AI industry sectors — AI computing, data centers, system software, and optical interconnect — and to continually expand its CVC investments.

The Ventures Day event drew U.S. startups in the AI computing and data center technology sectors, which shared their perspectives on future technological innovation. Discussion topics included the growing importance of computing, memory, and system software innovation driven by advanced AI models, as well as the performance and power efficiency of optical-based systems for AI data centers. Participants also discussed strategies for strengthening partnerships with global venture firms and investors in future technology fields such as AI data centers and optical-based systems.

“Competitiveness in the AI era stems not just from rapidly securing innovative technologies, but from ecosystem capabilities where customers, partners, and startups create new value together,” Kwak said in the launch announcement. “Through SK hynix Ventures, we will support the growth of promising companies and grow into a global partner that jointly designs the future of AI infrastructure based on strategic investments and technological cooperation.”

Company Profile and Recent Fab Approvals

SK hynix, headquartered in Korea, supplies DRAM and NAND flash memory to customers globally. Its common shares trade on the Korea Exchange, its American Depositary Shares on NASDAQ, and its Global Depositary Shares on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

The Ventures launch follows the company’s August 7, 2026 announcement that its board had approved a total investment of approximately 54 trillion won, with 35.2 trillion won for the Yongin Y2 fab and 19.1 trillion won for the Cheongju M17 fab, to secure a mid-to-long-term production base for AI memory demand. Y2, the second of four fabs planned sequentially for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, is targeting a first cleanroom opening in June 2029 to produce high-bandwidth memory and other next-generation DRAM products. M17, a NAND production base, is planned to open its first cleanroom in December 2028. In that release, the company cited market research firm Omdia projecting that DRAM and NAND demand would maintain a 19% compound annual growth rate from 2025 through 2030.
