DJI Launches ROMO 2 Robot Vacuum Series Globally – Unite.AI
ShareShareShareShareShare

DJI launched the ROMO 2 series globally on September 3, 2026, introducing two new robot vacuum and mop models, the ROMO P2 and ROMO A2. The Shenzhen-based company announced the global launch in a release, positioning the second-generation line around drone-derived obstacle sensing, a wider-swinging mopping arm, and an upgraded self-cleaning base station.

Perception and Cleaning System

According to DJI, the ROMO 2 achieves millimeter-level awareness of floor-level obstacles, using sensing technology drawn from its flagship aircraft. The company said the robot can avoid cables or pet training pads as thin as 2 mm, can detect and avoid transparent obstacles such as glass and mirrors, and can generalize from previous use to autonomously avoid obstacles it has never encountered before. A bottom-mounted light casts an even spread of illumination across the floor so the robot can spot dirt and obstacles in low-light conditions.

DJI said the robot distinguishes between debris and liquid and adjusts its behavior accordingly: boosting suction on carpets to lift embedded dust, or deploying its extended-reach arm for contained cleaning when it detects liquid spills to keep them from spreading. The company said the robot can also prioritize open pathways, re-mop as needed, and automatically lift its mop pads when appropriate.

Robotic Arm, Suction, and Mobility

The ROMO 2 carries a built-in high-precision LiDAR unit that guides what DJI calls its LiDAR-Guided Adaptive Robotic Arm. The arm swings across a 123-degree arc, reaching 7.8 cm wider and mopping 4.5 cm deeper under floating furniture than the previous generation, according to the company, which said the arm allows the robot to clean beneath cabinets and sofas while moving millimeter-close to walls and table legs without contact.

On carpet, a pressure plate lowers to create a semi-seal against the floor, and DJI said the system’s 36,000 Pa suction can pull out deep-seated dust in a single pass. Dual side brushes use a dual-tuft bristle design that the company said keeps hair tangle-free while transferring debris smoothly.

For mobility, DJI said the robot’s legs cross single-step obstacles up to 4 cm high and double-step obstacles up to 8.5 cm, with mechatronics that detect thresholds and lift the body for smoother crossings. All performance figures in the announcement were measured under controlled test conditions, and DJI noted that results may vary depending on the external environment, usage, and firmware version.

Base Station, Battery, and Design

The self-cleaning base station uses a washboard with a nanocrystalline surface designed to resist stain buildup, with grime flushed away by four high-pressure water jets and a 16 mm waste suction port. DJI said the station delivers up to 365 days of maintenance-free operation.

On acoustics, DJI said it selected 32 noise-reduction materials spanning the motor to the air outlet, paired with acoustic insulation pads and muffler chambers covering robot movement, mopping, and base-station dust collection. The company reported that the system reduces noise energy by up to 85% and operates as low as 38 dBA during quiet mopping.

The robot retains the semi-translucent body of the first-generation ROMO line, exposing its internal structure. DJI said the ROMO 2 supports 55W fast charging and reaches a full charge in 2.5 hours, topping up each time it returns to the base station to wash its mops.

Privacy Controls and Certifications

DJI said it will offer a Local Data Mode for the ROMO 2 that severs the DJI Home app’s internet connection, preventing unintentional syncing of photos or videos with external servers. The feature will be available on the ROMO 2 in Q4 2026, with availability details for the first-generation ROMO to be shared later. Users can also disable the camera and microphone from the DJI Home app at any time and delete shared personal data on demand.

DJI’s Trust Center page for the ROMO line describes end-to-end encryption that generates a new key with each use, in-person QR code authorization before shared users can view remote video or real-time photos, and encrypted map storage in the DJI Cloud. The page lists a 2026 TÜV SÜD penetration test of the ROMO P2 and DJI Home app that produced no critical, high, or medium-risk findings, along with ETSI EN 303 645 certification, a Diamond-level IoT Security Rating from UL Solutions, an EU Type-Examination Certificate from TÜV Rheinland under the Radio Equipment Directive, and BSI certification to ISO 27701 and ISO 27001. DJI said it has submitted products for third-party security audits since 2017.

Availability

The ROMO 2 will be available to order from DJI’s online store and authorized retail partners starting in October 2026, in three configurations: the DJI ROMO Clean More Combo, the DJI ROMO P2 (Water Tank Version), and the DJI ROMO A2 (Water Tank Version).

DJI had previously said in an August 27, 2026 announcement that the ROMO 2 would make its European debut at IFA 2026 in Berlin, where the company is exhibiting from September 4 to 8 at booth Hall 20-129. The company said the launch builds on the spatial perception and smart home expertise established by the first-generation ROMO.
