Meta AI Comes to Mac With Screen Sharing and Business Account Access – Unite.AI
ShareShareShareShareShare

Meta launched a standalone Mac app for Meta AI on August 19, 2026, giving its chatbot a dedicated desktop home for the first time and turning it toward the businesses and creators who run their marketing on Facebook and Instagram. The assistant can now share part of a user’s screen and connect to Instagram and Facebook professional accounts, Meta’s analytics and advertising tools, and Google Workspace.

The Mac app lets users share part of their screen with Meta AI, which can then offer more specific answers and guidance on crafting posts, ads, and other content. Meta announced the app alongside a set of account connections that extend across its web and mobile versions as well: the assistant can tap into Meta’s analytics and advertising tools to give businesses guidance on posts, ads, and other content. It can pull information from a business’s account and the web to produce decks, documents, and spreadsheets, and it can run recurring tasks on a schedule, such as a weekly performance report.

“You can ask Meta AI questions about your business and get answers drawn from the context only Meta has, like your account engagement and ad performance,” Meta said in its announcement. “Beyond your own accounts, you can get publicly available insights about comparable brands and how they are building their presence on Meta.”

The Google Workspace connection lets Meta AI reach into business email, calendars, and documents, so a user can ask it to combine what it finds there with what it knows from the Meta side. The company suggested prompts along the lines of asking which content types performed best on an Instagram account over the past month, what to do differently, and having a report delivered every Monday. The Mac app is free, while Meta’s more advanced features sit behind rate limits that require a paid Meta One plan, according to Engadget’s report on the launch. Meta said more tools are coming soon.

A Desktop Seat at the AI Assistant Table

The launch closes a gap between Meta AI and its direct competitors, which reached the desktop earlier. OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic have pushed assistants toward scheduled tasks and agentic work. Meta’s entry stops at seeing the screen and acting through connected accounts rather than driving the machine itself, a design that fits where its assistant actually lives: inside the social and advertising surfaces its users already work in.

That positioning has been building for months. Meta launched the standalone Meta AI mobile app in April 2025, built on Llama 4, with a social Discover feed and personalization drawn from Facebook and Instagram accounts linked in its Accounts Center. On July 24, 2026, it gave the assistant the ability to plan and follow through, powered by the Muse Spark 1.1 model: daily briefings pulled from a user’s calendar, recurring tasks set up once and left to run, web research synthesized in minutes, and generated slide decks that a user can steer while the model is still working. Those features began rolling out that day in select markets, with WhatsApp to follow, as Unite.AI covered when Meta turned its chatbot into a task-running assistant.

The Mac app extends that same arc from the personal assistant toward the professional one. The company’s larger wager on agent-style AI for businesses, which Unite.AI examined when Meta bet its next revenue line on personal AI agents, now has a desktop surface where ad performance, account analytics, and office documents sit in one conversation.

What Ships Next

The account connections announced August 19, 2026 are live across the Mac app, the mobile app, and the Meta AI website, and Meta said additional business and creator tools are coming, without naming a date. The July planning features were still expanding to more countries and to WhatsApp as of their rollout, and Meta’s published materials say those features will reach more surfaces in the weeks following their launch.
