It appears the ticket frenzy that’s hit sporting events and concerts is also hitting some movie theatres. Tickets for IMAX 70mm showings of The Odyssey are popping up online for hundreds or thousands of dollars. Even tickets for Dune 3, not out until December, are going for hundreds of bucks. This huge fan demand for premium screenings is up against the limited number of theaters around the country that can even show movies on an IMAX 70mm screen. Experts say this kind of demand is literally changing the way movies are made: studios are leaving money on the table if they don’t offer a premium viewing experience.
