Problems began around 6:40 a.m. ET, with users reporting issues accessing services including Apple Pay, DoorDash, Reddit and streaming platform Hulu, according to outage tracker Downdetector.

AWS said the disruption stemmed from connectivity problems affecting multiple services in its US-West-2 region in Oregon.

The company later expanded the list of impacted services to seven, including AWS Direct Connect, Global Accelerator, Internet Connectivity, IoT Core, Amazon API Gateway, Elastic Compute Cloud and Elastic Container Service.

A regional failure inside AWS can ripple across seemingly unrelated websites and applications that rely on Amazon’s cloud infrastructure.

During the disruption, companies using AWS apologized to customers on social media for service interruptions, while users voiced frustration as websites and apps became unavailable.

PlayStation users also reported problems, with one saying they had been abruptly kicked out of a game.

AWS classified the incident as an “impacted” event, indicating customers were experiencing service issues, but there was no indication that customer data had been lost or that Amazon’s broader global network had failed.

The company said the connectivity problems were resolved shortly after 9 a.m. ET.
