Whether its bourbon, scotch or rye, distilled spirits are hot! Sales were up 4.1% in 2015, according to the Distilled Spirits Council, whereas wine sales were flat. And American whiskeys are leading the pack. Their sales were up 7.8% from the previous year. Whiskey (or whisky if you’re from across the pond) is made from various grains – like barley, corn and rye — that are mashed and then aged in wooden casks. But to learn more about these trendy brown spirits, we met up with Tom Steffanci President of Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, who walked us through a whisky tasting and talked about the company’s recent purchase of Redemption whisky.
