If Wall Street doesn’t perceive Walmart as having as great a holiday shopping season as digital foe Amazon when all is said and done, it won’t be for lack of trying by the world’s largest retailer. Walmart said Thursday that it will have 400 exclusive toys available this holiday shopping season, roughly in line with last year. The list of toy exclusives will be headlined by a pricey $398 Disney battery powered car for children to ride around in. In electronics, the amount of product exclusives is expected to be up slightly compared to a year ago. The number of price “rollbacks” Walmart will offer during the holidays is forecast to increase by 20% as the discounter continues with its year plus effort to offer lower prices for its economically sensitive consumers. “It will be a a competitive holiday season, if not more competitive,” Steve Bratspies, Walmart’s U.S. chief merchant told TheStreet in an interview. Meanwhile, Walmart will have about 20 million items for sale online during the holidays, up significantly from 8 million a year ago. Beyond product, Walmart is upping its game in customer service in an attempt to ease some pressure on stressed out holiday shoppers. The company for the first time will have specially marked “holiday helpers” in its stores to guide people to open registers, find products and open closed registers when needed. TheStreet’s Brian Sozzi has all the details on Walmart’s holiday plans from one of the retailer’s stores in Teterboro, NJ.
