Fully autonomous cars may not be so far off as you think, if you are eyeing a BMW.
Driver-less cars could be a reality within the next five years, Ludwig Willisch, Head of BMW Group Region Americas, BMW of North America told TheStreet in an interview at the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday.
The luxury automaker has already made good strides in the area of autonomous driving.
BMW’s 2017 540i can drive itself at certain times. The 540i has sensors that detect if you are navigating out of a lane and then quickly put you back in it. No need to touch the steering wheel, just a slight vibration while the process is playing out.
Sort of scary while going 60 mph, as TheStreet learned, but indeed offers us drivers a first taste of the future of autonomous driving.
