CAROLINE WOODS: Elon Musk is declaring war on Netflix.
The richest man alive has taken to X on multiple occasions this week to urge his 220 million followers to “cancel Netflix” for the quote “health of your kids.”
What’s behind the firestorm? The animated series “Dead End: Paranormal Park” – which features a transgender character. The show was canceled back in 2023 after two seasons but it airs on Netflix.
Show creator Hamish Steele fired back on rival app Bluesky, calling it a “very odd day” and sharing a post that called Dead End a “brilliant show about kind, wonderful characters.”
Musk has been reposting screenshots of Netflix cancellations but will this boycott talk actually hurt the streaming giant? Many analysts say: probably not. Netflix boasts more than 300 million subscribers and a $500 billion market cap.
The stock has taken a hit this week though. Shares are down about 4% – BUT still up more than 60% in the past year.
