CAROLINE WOODS: McDonald’s Monopoly is back for the first time in a decade – now with a digital spin. The game comes with nostalgia… and a checkered past. In the early 2000s, a $24 million scam sparked an FBI investigation and inspired HBO’s McMillion$.
This time, safeguards, security protocols, and independent audits will keep play fair.
Monopoly starts October 6 for a limited time – and playing is a bit different.
Order select eligible menu items – Big Macs, fries, McNuggets, and more – to get a physical game piece. Digital pieces are only earned if you register in the app before ordering.
Physical pieces must be scanned in the app to redeem. Collect all pieces of a property to unlock prizes.
Prizes include free food, 1 million American Airlines miles, a trip to Universal Orlando, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a $10,000 Lowe’s shopping spree, and $1 million cash.
McDonald’s says customers have been clamoring for the game’s return. Safe to say it finally got its Get Out of Jail Free card…?
