According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Irma is rapidly intensifying over the Eastern Atlantic. As of Thursday it was 650 miles west of The Cabo Verde Islands and 1845 miles east of the Leeward Islands. In a bulletin thursday NOAA said, “Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts. Irma is forecast to become a major hurricane by tonight and is expected to be an extremely dangerous hurricane for the next several days.”
Irma is still a long way from making landfall in America. The Weather Channel writes, “Irma will not reach the longitude of the Lesser Antilles (eastern Caribbean) until the middle of next week.” Projections are only available through Tuesday morning and it is still way to early to tell whether or not Irma will follow Harvey’s devastating track.
