JetBlue will use Amazon’s technology starting in 2027.

CAROLINE WOODS: Amazon is aiming to be a satellite-internet powerhouse and has just signed its first airline customer.
JetBlue will be the first airline to use Amazon’s Project Kuiper satellites, enhancing its free Fly-Fi service.
The airline will equip select aircraft with Kuiper’s low-Earth orbit satellites starting in 2027. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
JetBlue’s choice puts Amazon in the satellite-internet race. The current leader, Starlink, run by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has more than 8,000 satellites in low-Earth orbit. Starlink already provides high-speed internet to homes and businesses – including United Airlines.
So far this year, Project Kuiper has launched just over 100 satellites, but Amazon plans to have about 3,200 in orbit over the next few years.
And beyond JetBlue, Amazon has also recently signed an agreement with Airbus to integrate Project Kuiper connectivity into their aircraft catalog.
So, it’s gaining traction, but Starlink remains the company to beat.
