The burger chain beat Wall Street’s expectations.
Transcript:
McDonald’s topped Wall Street’s expectations in Q2, and it has one of the year’s top movies to thank. The retail chain reported a 5% jump in revenue in its second quarter, that number came in at $6.8 billion.
And part of that bump is in part due to its March promotion involving the popular Minecraft movie.
The promo, which included a Happy Meal for kids, ran in 100 markets. That led to global sales at stores open for at least a year to jump 3.8%. Minecraft grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide.
McDonald’s strong earnings report comes just one quarter after the burger chain said middle and low income customers were returning less frequently. That led to the chain implementing more promotions, as well as debuting new menu items.
