CAROLINE WOODS: If you get health insurance through your work, prepare to pay a bit more for it next year. According to a new report, employers are planning on shifting more health care costs onto their employees. The report, released by Mercer, said more than half of employers plan to adjust their health care offerings in 2026.
Mercer said quote “Employers are thinking, we’re at a point where we can’t do another year of not passing along some of the cost increases.”
After seeing a 4.5% increase in health benefits expenses in 2024, companies are planning for another 6% bump in 2026. And Mercer says costs will likely increase even more next year as doctors use artificial intelligence to more precisely bill insurance companies.
However, there is good news on the benefits front. More than half of employers say they will offer some kind of child care, elder care, and women’s reproductive health resources.
