CAROLINE WOODS: Good news for travelers! The Transportation Safety Administration appears to be rolling back one of its most loathed airport security rules. For the first time in almost 20 years, passengers will no longer be required to remove their shoes at TSA checkpoints – at least at some airports.
While the agency hasn’t made an official announcement, travelers are already noticing the change at checkpoints around the country.
Shoe removal has been mandatory for most fliers since 2006 — unless you were under 12, over 75, or had TSA PreCheck.
But now, it looks like more passengers can keep their shoes on — with some caveats.
According to reports, you may need to have a Real ID and not require special screening.
It’s a step in the right direction for speed and convenience at the airport.
