Clint Henderson, Managing Editor at The Points Guy, explains why you shouldn’t fly from Newark Airport this summer.

Clint Henderson: So Newark is a huge hub for United. A lot of folks have traveled out of there this summer. We are telling people at the Points Guy, if you can change your flight to fly out of LaGuardia, Philadelphia, or JFK instead, we recommend doing that. Not so much because of the safety issues, though. That is a concern, but more because so many delays and cancellations are happening that the big story is a dramatic shortage of air traffic controllers. They don’t have the people they need manning the Philadelphia TRACON where they run Newark flights from. So I think it’s going to be a mess all summer long. There are efforts underway. There have been efforts underway to solve some of these ATC shortage problems, but we’re just not there yet. And I think Newark is going to be a mess all summer long.
