Despite a wave of selling amid uncertainty, one Wall Street veteran argues the U.S. economy remains the envy of the world as investors flee U.S. assets.

SCOTT BOK: I think there are always things to worry about on Wall Street, but I think there are always some core things that you really don’t have to worry about. I mean, I think the US is still the envy of the world in terms of our economy. If you look at most of the great companies created over the last 25, 35 years, most of those are American. They’re in the realm of technology, health care, other sort of cutting edge. Fields where things are changing pretty rapidly. American companies tend to be the leaders there. We’re still the biggest economy in the world, and I don’t think that’s going to change. But at the margin, could we see some threats to American preeminence? Will we maybe be not as much of an outlier as we have been historically? You know, that could be. We’ll have to see how things play out.
