The U.S. exported $2.4 billion worth of spirits last year

U.S. spirits exports had a record year in 2024, but global economic uncertainty could water down future sales. According to a report released by the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, the U.S. exported $2.4 billion worth of spirits last year, a 10% bump from 2023.
Exports to the U.K. rose by 39% — that increase was fueled by a potential 50% tariff on American Whiskey imports in 2025. And DISCUS President and CEO Chris Swonger said this year’s outlook is far less clear, saying, “Unfortunately, ongoing trade disputes unrelated to our sector have caused uncertainty, keeping many U.S. distillers on the sidelines and curtailing sales growth.”
Roughly 50% of all U.S. spirits were exported to the EU, with whiskey being the spirit purchased most by European importers. Tennessee and Kentucky, two states with huge bourbon productions, exported a combined $1.7 billion worth of spirits in 2024.
