87% of Christmas decorations come from China.
Transcript:
While consumers might be the biggest losers of the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China, there might be one clear winner: The Grinch.
Chinese producers of plastic Christmas trees and decorations say U.S. orders normally start to come in by now, but they haven’t received any.
87% of Christmas decorations sold by U.S. retailers are made in China — and those products are worth roughly $4 billion. And from China’s standpoint, about half of what Chinese factories produce are sold to the U.S. market.
Making matters worse, U.S. retailers can’t even rely on its number 2 destination for Christmas goods. That rank belongs to Cambodia, which makes 5.5% of the holiday cheer, but Trump has imposed a 49% tariff on all Cambodian imports.
