Irritated Walmart shoppers slammed the discount retailer for alleged staffing shortages that are causing outrageously long checkout lines.
Customers have turned to social media to take out their frustrations on the big-box store for closing down checkout lanes and forcing shoppers to wait on long lines.
“Store number 3583 closing all lines while people standing waiting over 10 minutes to send everyone to Self checkout because now it’s ok to checkout in lanes marked 15 items or less with over 15 items suddenly,” a New York-based user said in a post on X earlier this month. “So now we have to wait in the self checkout line.”
The fed-up customer shared photos of a long line of customers with full carts waiting for the self-checkout registers, claiming the chaos took place at the Walmart Supercenter in Glenmont, NY near Albany.
“Decisions related to self-checkout and staffed registers are made at the manager’s discretion and are based on several factors, including feedback from associates and customers, shopping patterns and business needs in the area,” a Walmart spokesperson told The Post in a statement.
Another user, this time from Florida, according to X, lambasted Walmart’s evening checkout process.
“Want to make sure I’ve got this,” the user said in a post on X, tagging Walmart’s account. “You closed the whole section of Scan & Go after 7:30, then close 1/2 of the registers in the other one you have open. All while having no express lane and 1 real cashier.”
“I’m waiting in line with 3 items. I need to rethink where I shop,” the user added.
Another disgruntled Walmart shopper said their location had closed the self-checkout area as well as most registers, and employees were not helping to cut down the long lines.
“6:30 pm, self checkout closed, only 5 registers open. Lines long as hell. Bunch of employees standing around doing nothing,” a user said in a post on X this week.
The customer said the Walmart Supercenter in Montgomery, Ala. is “the worst one around” and pleaded with Walmart: “Do something about this!”
A Walmart spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
