Google GOOGL revealed Monday Oct. 8 user data on google Plus accounts were exposed to third party developers.
Google said it is already solving the problem and that no exposed data was actually misused by those third parties. But that’s not the point. It’s no longer clear at all that data misuse in Facebook and Google is contained. And it’s no longer clear that there isn’t any data misuse. Facebook revealed recently that 50 million accounts were hacked, in addition to the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
If there is tons more data misuse than has been revealed, there may be impending government regulation. That could put a dent in revenues. This begs the question of just how accurately Google and Facebook FB can be valued.
