President Biden faced new pressure to abandon his campaign for re-election, with two sources telling NBC News that former President Obama has “concerns” about Mr. Biden’s ability to remain at the top of the ticket. The White House and the Biden campaign are publicly pushing back on Democratic leaders trying to push the president out. But one person close to the Mr. Biden tells NBC News, “We’re close to the end.”
Former President Trump will formally accept his party’s nomination for president on the fourth and final night of the Republican National Convention. Mr. Trump says his speech will be “more unifying” after he was wounded by an assassin’s bullet in Butler, PA five days ago.
As pressure grows from Democratic leaders for President Biden to end his campaign for re-election, the country finds itself at a remarkable split-screen moment with a president facing turmoil over his future while Republicans have largely united around former President Trump.
