The Toyota Crown is the carmaker’s answer to the BMW’s and Mercedes’ of the world, but is priced like a budget vehicle.

The average price of a new car in the United States is a little over $47,000. 15% more expensive than it was just three years ago. And with prices already so high, a luxury car isn’t in everyone’s budget. But, Toyota has introduced an alternative that keeps the luxury without the luxury price tag. This is the Toyota Crown.
The Toyota Crown is a four-door sedan that’s similar in size to a BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-class and Audi’s A6. Though it breaks the luxury car mold with its unique styling and high riding stance, the Crown we test-drove was the top-of-the-line platinum model.
Under the hood, it has a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged hybrid engine and with 340 horsepower it can go from 0 to 60 miles an hour in 5.1 seconds. One of the features that sets the Crown apart from other vehicles in its class, is the roof. Looking more like a Tesla than a Toyota, the all-glass panoramic ceiling isn’t something you’ll find in other cars in the Crown’s tier.
The Crown also comes with Toyota’s advanced park system, which allows it to parallel park itself.
So what’s interesting about Toyota’s advanced park tech is it will actually work not just in parallel parking situations, but also when you’re in a normal parking lot. That’s the space I want to go into right there, right next to the Mercedes. Just hit start.
See, I’m not even touching anything. And my foot is just on the brake just trying to make sure it’s actually going to go into the space. It’s not going to hit this Mercedes and not go straight into this Model 3. That is technology I never thought I wanted. But somehow it’s here.
The Crown we drove was a fully loaded 2024 Crown Platinum, and it retails for almost $55,000. Now, while that might look like a price tag for a BMW, keep in mind that’s for a top-of-the-line model. The Crown’s base model starts at a little over $41,000. So if you’re looking for a vehicle that feels luxurious but still priced like a budget car, the Toyota Crown can be right up your alley.
