A Gmail outage has left thousands of users unable to send emails or messages on the popular Google app.
The outage appeared to hit users at around 3 p.m. on Thursday, with DownDetector, a site that tracks online issues, citing nearly 5,000 reports within the hour.
About 82% of the problems reported appear to be related to sending emails, according to DownDetector, with only 15% citing direct server connectivity issues.
Those trying to send messages were flagged with a red banner stating: “Message could not be sent. Check your network and try again.”
An outage map for Gmail in the US shows the problem occurring across the nation, with significant hotspots in America’s busiest hubs, especially New York City.
The problem has caused some of Gmail’s more than 1.8 billion active users around the globe to take to social media to share their issues with the ubiquitous email service.
Many have gone on to post screenshots of the infamous “Oops, something went wrong,” message Gmail uses whenever it stumbles across a connectivity issue.
Google has yet to issue a statement on the outage. The company did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
It remains unclear how many people and businesses were impacted by the issues, with DownDetector still citing more than a thousand reports as of 5:12 EST.
