Serena Williams’ husband and Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian has been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
The father of two, 41, revealed his health battle when doctors told him about the diagnosis after he underwent a full-body scan.
“Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease,” he wrote on X Tuesday.
“Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone.”
Lyme disease is “an illness caused by borrelia bacteria,” according to The Mayo Clinic. People typically get Lyme disease from the bite of a tick carrying the bacteria.
Early-stage Lyme symptoms include headaches, flu-like symptoms, joint pain, fatigue and sometimes a rash, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Ohanian was surprised over the diagnosis, claiming he spent “so little time in the wilderness and Northeast.”
“I’ve got a loved one who had it a few years back, showed tons [of] symptoms etc and just couldn’t figure it out until they tested him for it and then found it (treated it successfully, too),” he added.
Still, Ohanian is not letting the diagnosis get him down.
“Anyway, gonna grab some antibiotics — can’t keep me down, tick!”
Ohanian later urged his 500k followers on the platform to seek professional medical help if they have any questions about the disease.
“Please talk to a doctor,” he wrote. “Do not listen to me for any health advice!”
More than 470,000 Americans are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year, the CDC noted.
Most cases “can be treated with 10-14 days of antibiotics,” the government agency added.
Ohanian joins a list of stars who have been open about their battle with the illness, including Justin Bieber, Bella Hadid and her mom Yolanda, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, and Amy Schumer.
Ohanian’s health update comes just days after he hit the red carpet with his famous wife and their daughter Olympia at the 2024 ESPY Awards.
Williams, who served as host at this year’s star-studded ceremony, presented a slew of awards at the July 11 event, including the Pat Tillman Award for Service to Prince Harry — her close pal Meghan Markle’s husband.
