The judge in South Carolina denied Murdaugh’s request after a member of the jury that convicted him of murdering his wife and son testified that the court clerk made Murdaugh seem “already guilty” when she told jurors to “watch him closely.” The judge said the defense did not prove the comments directly influenced the jury’s decision to convict Murdaugh.
