The ‘Zoom-wedding’ has become a new normal during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Many couples did not hold-off but instead chose to tied the knot amid the pandemic.
New Jersey residents Vibhav Narula, 29, and Srishti Kaul, 24, are one of them.
On June 13, they performed the wedding at the backyard of bride’s home.
“If June wasn’t the date, it would have been postponed till November and December and we were not ready to wait that much,” said Kaul.
The video-sharing platform Zoom (ZM) – Get Report had made this wedding possible. Only about 20 people showed up at the wedding venue due to social-distancing guidelines but more than 160 people attended the wedding, thanks to Zoom.
Even the groom’s parents, who are based in India, attended the wedding on Zoom. They could not get the necessary travel visas due to the pandemic.
“Had Zoom not been there, it may have affected the decision of holding the wedding,” said the bride’s father, Sushiel Kaul.
Few people including the groom have heard of Zoom platform until the pandemic hit everyone. Zoom’s popularity has skyrocketed which have had a great run for its stock price. In December, its stock price was less than $70 per share and now it has skyrocketed to more than $250 per share.
As per the company, it had 200 million daily users in March 2020 compared to 10 million daily users in December 2019.
“We never heard of it unless this COVID impacted, but definitely would be a good thing to invest in, for future purposes too,” groom Narula said.
