Twitch is ending things on a high note according to StreamElements’ latest State of the Stream report. According to data partner Rainmaker.gg, viewers watched 1.727 billion hours in November. Excluding the first quarter, November set a daily hours watched peak with 57.5 million watched on average per day.
“Twitch is closing out 2023 on a high note with a daily hours watched peak compared to the last two quarters,” said Or Perry, cofounder of StreamElements. “Other highlights include KaiCenat breaking xQc’s three-year streak as most watched streamer, ironmouse breaking Amouranth’s two-year run as top female streamer, and Diablo IV dominating the Twitch chart for new game debuts. The big takeaway is that as other platform’s pursue top talent, you can never predict who will be the unofficial face of a brand.”
KaiCenat’s February Subathon takes the crown
With 109 million hours watched in 2023, Kai Cenat took down xQc’s three-year run as Twitch’s most watched creator. Cenat’s February-long subathon netted over 43 million hours watched, solidifying his lead over Gaules and ibai in addition to xQc.
On top of ranking second and third, Gaules and ibai are the most watched Portugese and Spanish language streamers on Twitch. Both creators have carved out a niche as a go-to co-streaming partner for esports events in their respective languages. While tournament organizers get amplified reach, both Gaules and ibai’s viewership benefitted from the high value content.
Additionally, VTuber ironmouse is continued to make 2023 her year. Not only did she win The Video Game Award for best content creator, she was also the most watched female streamer on Twitch. Her 18 million hours watched in 2023 makes her the 89th most watched creator on the livestreaming platform.
Fortnite, League of Legends end 2023 on a high note
The overall landscape for games on Twitch continued to be consistent in 2023. League of Legends remains the most popular game on the platform. Its record-breaking world championship helped the title bring in 248 million hours watched in October and November. Riot also took the third spot on the list with Valorant’s 916 million hours watched.
Fortnite also made the final days of 2023 count. In November, Epic Games’ battle royale released weekly update for its Fortnite OG Season. With 111 million hours watched, the title brought in over 20% of its annual viewership just during November. Epic will continue the momentum into December with its Lego Fortnite mode.
Diablo IV – 2023’s biggest launch
While World of Warcraft managed to take the ninth most watched spot, Diablo IV was Blizzard’s biggest win on Twitch. During the week of its June launch, viewers watched 70 million hours of Diablo IV livestreams. Blizzard used Twitch’s drops system to great effect, helping the title secure the top spot.
While Hogwarts Legacy didn’t get many nominations at The Game Awards, the title was Twitch’s second biggest 2023 launch. February 2023 wasn’t a particularly crowded launch window, which helped the RPG stand out.
In addition to its Game of the Year accolades, Baldur’s Gate III was also the third largest launch on Twitch of 2023. R. Like Hogwarts Legacy, the RPG didn’t have many other new titles to compete with during its early August launch.
