14-year-old Antonio Vento regained his eyesight after a breakthrough treatment. Vento lost his eyesight after being diagnosed with dystrophic epidermolusis bullosa, a rare illness where cells do not produce enough collagen. Clarification: In a previous version of this story, we stated that a Stanford doctor developed a drug for Antonio’s skin condition. That doctor oversaw a clinical trial in which Antonio participated for his skin condition. He connected Dr. Sabater with the drug’s developer, Krystal Biotech, who then adapted the treatment for Antonio’s eyes.
