Through that project, Lacretia Johnson Flash learned her own ancestors were once enslaved by families whose direct descendant is Kentucky Rep. Brett Guthrie. Blayne Alexander speaks to her about her family’s history and slavery’s lasting impact. Rep. Guthrie did not respond to NBC News’ request for comment.
