Japanese voters went to the polls on Sunday for a parliamentary election that gave the ruling Liberal Democratic Party a surge of support after the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The election was held just days after Abe, an LDP heavyweight, was shot while delivering a campaign speech in the western city of Nara, leaving the country in a state of shock and mourning.
